The sacred art of traditional iconography
At AnoΘen Icons, each piece is handcrafted using ancient Byzantine methods, authentic materials, and profound reverence. Discover the slow, deliberate process behind our sacred art, shaped by Greek heritage and timeless Orthodox tradition.

Time-honored materials and sacred methods
Each icon is handcrafted using traditional Byzantine iconography techniques. We work on carefully prepared wooden panels layered with natural gesso and bole, using genuine gold leaf and egg tempera mixed by hand with natural pigments. Every single stage, from preparing the aged wood to gilding and painting sacred figures, is completed with patience, precision, and deep respect for the Orthodox tradition.

The journey from blank wood to sacred image
Every icon begins with the meticulous preparation of the wooden panel, followed by the careful application of gesso and bole. The sacred composition is then transferred and painted entirely by hand using traditional egg tempera and earthy natural pigments. Genuine gold leaf is laid and polished to a luminous finish before the icon is refined through delicate layers of detail and protected with a lasting finish. What makes our process truly special is this unhurried devotion, pairing centuries-old Byzantine canon with a distinct artistic touch.

Living faith and centuries of Greek heritage
Orthodox iconography is far more than an art form it is an unbroken, living tradition of faith, prayer, and spiritual expression passed down through generations. Created with reverence for the sacred figures they depict, our icons draw continuous inspiration from our roots and the historic beauty of Lindos, Rhodes. Surrounded by Greek history and enduring spiritual culture, we preserve this sacred legacy through our own dedicated hand.
"Each icon is a truly handmade work, created with prayer, fasting, care, patience, and deep respect for the sacred tradition of Orthodox iconography—crafted to become a meaningful presence in your home and treasured for generations."
